Surya Health and Wellness is proud to support the following not-for-profit organizations in the community:
Celebrating Healthy Communities
The Coalition is comprised of over 40 organizations, 50 active individual members, and a full mailing list of over 260 community members. They act to increase DevelopmentalAssets among youth and young adults in order to promote healthy, caring and responsible individuals and build protective factors against risky behaviors, such as substance use.
Developmental assets are the relationships, opportunities, skills, values, and positive self-perceptions that youth need to lead healthy lives. The more assets a young person has, the less likely they are to engage in risky behaviors. (Search Institute).
Surya Health and Wellness serves on their advisory board as well as distributing resources for the community in their downtown location.
More than 16 million children are at risk of hunger in America. In Colorado, 1 in 5 children are at risk for hunger and malnutrition. Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters is a groundbreaking nutrition education program that helps families help themselves by teaching them how to prepare healthy low-cost meals.
Professional chefs and nutritionists volunteer their time and expertise to lead hands-on courses that instruct adults, teens, and kids living in low-income families, how to get the most nutrition out of a limited budget.
Surya Health and Wellness has offered the learning kitchen to Cooking Matters and the courses taught in Durango and La Plata County.
